about
Our previous single, Iron, was centered on the interpersonal strain and breakdown of relationships between people during lockdown. Grip, on the other hand, turns the focus on the inner-personal turmoil experienced throughout the 2020 pandemic. The lives, livelihoods, and attachments we built our identities around evaporated suddenly leaving many of us in pits of suffering, disillusion, and isolation. With nothing but our own psyche to grapple with and very few outlets within our reach, we all had to deal with our situations in our own way. Lyrically, Grip is a love letter to one's self pleading to let go of our hold on attachments and resentment so we can keep from spiraling into self-destruction and dig ourselves out of the hole the pandemic dropped us in. Musically, Grip features YMY's signature behemoth guitar riffs, emotional chorus hooks & stark dynamic changes throughout. With a finger on the Grunge, Emo, and Modern Heavy Rock influences of the past; Grip exemplifies the inspirations that molded Monster You's sound harkening back to simpler times. We hope you enjoy the second single from the new album “Not Dead Yet”.
lyrics
I ripped my heart from the tendrils
I blew my brains out before they could slip through my hands.
I'm shorting out, now I'm flippin'
To fool myself from adapting and all consequence.
It's not what I want
It's not what I need
It's not change here
Enough to cure me
Count me out
I'm out of my head
Knuckled down
I'm losing my grip
Numb me out
Escape from all this
Just let it go it’s over
Don't take this to the grave
I'm blowing up
now I'm loaded
I'll meme so hard that they'll finally notice my name
I'm playing games but not plugged in
If I'm so sure I should be dead this
Why's my aim shaking?
It's not what I want
It's not what I need
I’m holding on tightly
Just pulling my teeth
It's not gonna stop
Or solve anything!
Count me out
I'm out of my head
Knuckled down
I'm losing my grip
Numb me out
Escape from all this
Just let it go it’s over
Don't take this to the grave
Don't take this to the grave
Don't take this to the grave!
Faced with flaws
I'm not built to hold this long
Keep digging my hands
Down the same damn holes.
It's not gonna stop
Enough to cure me
I'll pass all this pain to my friends and family
It's not gonna stop
Enough to cure me.
Count me out
I'm out of my head
Knuckled down
I'm losing my grip
Numb me out
Escape from all this
But it won't ever get better
If I don't embrace the pain
Just let it go it's over.
Don't take this to the grave!
