about

You're only saying sorry so you don't feel so bad.

Our new song "Rose" is a very personal one. It was written at a time when I was angry, jaded and disillusioned by the world around me and the people I had chosen to trust in it. Part of me always had a little apprehension towards releasing it but I think there is value in overcoming that.

The lyrics are a painfully literal and vulnerable perspective of a jilted lover receiving mixed signals from an ex after a break up. Lamenting the all to common feelings of being taken advantage by someone for their own validation rather than connection. Sounds like the standard issue melodrama for a catchy emo rock anthem.

"Rose" relies on dynamic swings of emotion between the ragtime guitar verses and the chord-crushing punk choruses to create a sense of manic confusion and building angst. The bridge tenses up and rises like the sudden seize of your chest when confronted by someone who has wronged you. Finishing off with a climatic admonishment of their behavior and our attachment to them.

It was cathartic to write this song and (as cliché as it sometimes can be) it is often the worse feelings that provide the most motivation to write. This song will forever hold that frustration in its bars and melodies, but when it's manifested into something like song to give to others it can really help absolve the guilt and resentment you might feel towards yourself.

lyrics

How'd you expect this all to go?!

When everything was bleeding
and you hid behind your phone.
You don't have the guts to see me;
I wonder who you really are.
Been lying through the lockdown
in 3 years I should have known.
I'm all out of second chances.
Cause you'll just change your mind again.

That's what you get whoa oh
For giving in.
That's what you get whoa oh oh
You can't say you didn't see this coming.

You reach out for validation
cause you know what I want.
Just keep all your crumbs to yourself
The only person you care about.

That's what you get whoa oh
For giving in.
That's what you get whoa oh oh
There's no use escaping it.
That's what you get whoa oh
This feeling again.
And that's what you get whoa oh oh
You can't say you didn't see this!

You’re only saying sorry
So you don’t feel so bad.
When all this is clear in hindsight
I’m glad I kicked you out of my life.

That's what you get whoa oh
For giving in.
That's what you get whoa oh oh
There's not use escaping it.
Yeah that's what you get whoa oh oh
This is the end.
And that's what you'll get whoa oh oh
You can't say you didn't see this coming!
You can't say you didn't see this coming!
Hey!
Don't act like you didn't see this!
